Trump lost the first debate to himself

Make no mistake about it Trump got bushwhacked in the first debate with the help of Wallace who seems to have decided to help Biden with all the Democratic talking points.
But it wasn’t Biden or Wallace that beat up on Trump, Trump did it to himself.
The first debate was like watching a very bad boxing match in which Trump was throwing punches that rebounded on himself and didn’t realize how much trouble he was causing himself at the time.
People in the audience did, cringing each time Trump swung and missed or hit himself in the nose, getting beat up on issues Trump should have been smart enough to duck under.
Wallace was not help to Trump although some assumed, he would be since Wallace came from an allegedly Trump-friendly network.
But as a referee, Wallace kept giving decisions to Biden, even regarding facts such as those associated with COVID-19 and Charlottesville.
Wallace knew very well that quotes associated with Charlottesville were taken out of context at best and yet went along with the lie.
This helped Biden feel the white supremacist crap, and failed to hold Biden accountable for similar claims regarding the left-wing extremists currently burning down cities throughout the U.S.
Many who tuned into the broadcast were disgusted by the fact that they got to see a pontificating Trump rather than suave Trump they last saw outduel Clinton in 2016.
Trump overtalked, attempting knock out punches against Biden when he should have been jabbing – and Biden looked more sympathetic.
It was as if Trump was beating up on Mr. Rodgers.
Trump also couldn’t get out of his own way. He kept being tripped up by his own rhetoric, and often allowed himself to get trapped into rhetorical circles Biden was just smart enough to take advantage of.
All Biden had to do was stand there and let Trump screw himself.
The worst offense had to do with covid-19 where I'd has been selling the fact that Trump was in charge and Trump failed to note that Biden had had his opportunity in 2009 and completely screwed it up.
Trump also failed to make it clear governors not the president was in charge of the COVID-19 response and the worst of the pandemic occurred in states run by Democratic governors.
Trump actually at one point apologized for it, giving Biden a potential knock out blow fortunately for Trump, Biden never followed up on.
Part of the problem had to do with Trump’s preparations for the debate, using Giuliani and Christie as sparring partners, two tough guys playing the part of Biden, sending Trump into the boxing rink where he found Mr. Bean rather than Rocky.
Many people who were leaning for Trump simply turned off their TVs disgusted at the fact that Trump was so much more like a bully  than the prize fighter he was in 2016.
One supporter told me Trump had opportunity after opportunity to hold Biden’s feet to the fire and missed each one of them, partly because he was too busy trying to knock Biden out when he didn't have to do anything but respond appropriately.
Back in 2016 Trump Triumphed because he could handle Clinton, teasing the crap out of her with clever taunts, jabs instead of punches that allow her to feel the pain, but could not counter.
For the most part both of the candidates look like geriatric versions of kindergarten kids embroiled in a fight with Wallace trying to protect Biden from those few blows Trump managed to deliver.
Trump needs a new strategy something that goes back to the good old days of his response to Clinton and perhaps the miscalculation is to believe that Biden was less capable than Clinton was.
Trump walked into the ring thinking he had already won a fight and staggered out too dazed to realize he’s been bushwhacked.
Many Trump supporters think Biden won the debate, just by surviving the onslaught of missed swings.
Trump should also have gone in understanding that Wallace is not his friend.
Wallace is part of the media and media has been against Trump from the start even the so-called friendly media of Fox News.
If there is going to be another debate Trump passed to stop talking over his opponent and let his opponent sink himself
Stop trying to knock Biden out, and bloody him up instead.
The next debate is going to be tougher and yet maybe there's a valuable lesson to learn that you can't trust your friends like Wallace any more than you can your enemies.
If there is a next debate Trump will understand that nobody is on his side and that he can't keep assuming Biden is going to lose just because Biden is weak.
Trump also has to realize that he actually lost the first debate not to Biden but to himself and he needs to control his urge to deliver that one single blow that will bring him the election.
This is a marathon not a Sprint and he needs to bloody up by Blow by blow, little by little and never admit anything to find that will allow Biden a knockout blow himself.
